Benni wants to unite soccer fans, Africa with song
Sensational striker Benni McCarthy has done it again – he has released a song, 14 years after his single with TKZee, to rally behind Bafana Bafana and the continent during the upcoming Afcon games.
Titled Viva Africa, the song, which McCarthy recorded in collaboration with hip-hoppers Team Tsawara, aims to unite soccer fans and Africans in general – “Woza Afrika, siyaphambhili (Come, Africa, we’re moving forward),” state some of the lyrics.
According to a press release circulated this afternoon, the song is pegged to be “the next soccer anthem” .
“My wish is for Africa to excel … The message in the song really encourages Africans to believe in themselves, to work together, to go higher and see no limit,” said McCarthy of his lyrical endeavour.
The Pirates player will not be playing in the upcoming tournament due to injury. He has also recorded an ode to the club, Amabagabaga, to celebrate his affiliation to the team.
