Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero says three points against Angola are non-negotiable if they are to progress to the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The young Ajax Amsterdam player, who started on the bench in the opening game against Cape Verde on Saturday, said they needed the three points to get the momentum going.
“We owe it to the supporters and we need to score goals because that’s what people want. It is important to get our confidence back by winning against Angola,” said Serero, who said he might not be 100% fit but his fitness was improving daily.
He said the team needed to be patient and keep the ball more.
“Against Cape Verde we lacked composure and lost ball possession easily because they set at the back and that frustrated us. We need to be more patient and do better against Angola. I saw them in action and they are a decent side but I am confident we can beat them if we get our tactics right.”
He said he expected an open game on Wednesday as the two teams want the three points on offer.
“Games are different and we have been playing well recently, bar the results, but we need to improve against Angola and score goals.”
The former Ajax Cape Town player has recovered from a groin strain which kept him out of action for three months.
He is by far the most promising Bafana player in the camp and if the team is to see off Angola and Morocco in their next two games, Serero will have to be the catalyst.
