Zambia FA boss accepts apology for stoning
Football Association of Zambia president Kalusha Bwalya said the African champions have accepted an apology from South African officials regarding the stoning of their team bus following an international friendly in Joburg a few nights ago.
He said today that “let us put this incident behind us for the good of football”.
Two Zambian players were hurt when two youngsters threw stones at the bus as it left FNB stadium in Soweto following a 1-0 win over Bafana Bafana on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene needed stiches in his head after bus windows were shattered.
Police apprehended a 12- and 13-year-old who have since been released for counselling.
SA Football Association president Kirsten Nematandani apologised for the “embarrassing behaviour” ahead of the nation’s hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations in January and February.
