Ramphele offers hope
It’s about time the ruling ANC had an effective opposition.
Every time I hear that Mamphela Ramphele could be entering politics, I feel hopeful.
It’s people like her who can modify our nation and bring about the much-deserved metamorphosis.
Ramphele is a strong leader with a vision.
She fought the apartheid regime with her close friend and father to two of her children, Steve Biko, and has challenged the ANC when it goes astray.
Ramphele, given time and support, can astonish many and play a critical role in setting an example of how leaders should conduct themselves and stabilise the nation.
I believe in her ability to lead.
She is an organic leader who is tried and tested.
This former University of Cape Town chancellor must now finalise her plan and enter the political arena.
South Africa needs an athletic opposition party that can challenge the ANC.
To many, the DA is a symbol of apartheid and has not transformed to cater for all South Africans.
I would like to believe that there are many scholars, and intellectual and ordinary South Africans who would support Ramphele’s vision.
The future will be bright if she follows in the footsteps of Duma Nokwe, JL Dube and many African thinkers who came before her.
I don’t think Ramphele will join the DA.
They don’t share the same ideology and have nothing in common.
A move like that would betray Biko.
